Cocky and Funny George Orwell. FLI Writing 2/13

Cocky and Funny George Orwell. FLI Writing 2/13

I was told to never have a superior attitude over someone else in How to Win Friends by Carnegie and Solomon in Bible. Thus, I am sure some other wise proverbs tell same tales.

Reading the essay of George Orwell, I was a helplessly  smiling mutt amused by his British way of (black) humor. He remains in a position of self-imposed irony as some of his writings are so self-conflicting.

These Burmese yellow, as he puts it, is as amusing term as HOGs  they used to call it in Egypt for the natives. Just as Lawrence of Arabia, He remains cool and aloof superiority somehow heroic in his actions.

He is a well despised intruder but is a too amusing to be a serious threat, and perhaps a somewhat heroic unit for the natives.

Shooting the elephant was the merely symbolicof his status in his Burmese conquest and is proving the power of imperialism he abhorred very much..

He possess the authority and power to be special because he is a white Briton. He is after all, above the Burmese law and any rampage he is capable will be justified and compensated with imperialism’s power on his side.

Somehow pressured to entertain the silly yellows, he somewhat believes the actions of British evil.

George is a naughty writer and humorous in his approach to his audience. He is overcautious not to offend anyone including of Burmese.

That is all in all terrific but foolish and naughty story . It made amused so badly.

  1. Neil,

Overall, I liked your response, especially how you drew connections to people or events in history (such as Lawrence of Arabia). You found a lot of humor in this essay, and there certainly is some level of comic (almost slapstick) humor in Orwell's piece. I'll pass along some more specific comments to you in class. Thanks for the response.
